Evangelia "Vanga" Dimitrova, or Baba Vanga, as she was know to many Bulgarians, is a powerful, mystical figure in Bulgaria’s recent history, whose prophecies have been compared by some to those of Nostradamus. Vanga was born in 1911. She lived in Petrich near Rupite mineral springs, in the mountains south of Melnik. Her house in Rupite at the joint border of Bulgaria, Macedonia and Greece is believed to be a source of incredible cosmic energy.
Next stop will be at the Rozhen monastery - one of the few medieval monasteries with preserved original appearance, authentic architecture and monumental pictorial art. Located on a high hill with wonderful view to Pirin and Belasitsa, amidst the famous Melnik piramids, the monastery and its Church of the Nativity of Virgin are said to be the biggest in Pirin region.
The end of this trip will be in Melnik - the smallest town in Bulgaria, where the ruins of a fortress and original medieval houses are preserved. The town is famous for its wine cellars producing the best red wine in the country. You’ll visit the Kordopulov’s house, built in 1754 year. It has belonged to the rich and well-recognized family Kordopulovs in Melnik. It has a ground floor in which there is a wine-cellar built in for wine, inside the house we can also find a semi-floor with economic purpose and a floor used for living. The capacity of the wine-cellar is 250-300 tones wine. The nature around is picturesque and you can see the biggest rocky pyramids in Bulgaria.
