Plovdiv Sofia

Visit Plovdiv, one of the oldest towns in Europe. Enjoy with its historical museums, houses and art galleries. A chance to shop at the pedestrian area of the town.

Bulgaria's second largest city is one of the most attractive and vibrant centers in the country. The hills of Plovdiv are its characteristic landmark. They are intimately knit into the history and image of the city and its mythology. Seven out of the ten hills have been spared. Three of them were used as quarries and thus destroyed. The city is a perfect combination of past and present, where the many monuments from earlier epochs co-exist with the bustling activity of a modern city. The whole of Plovdiv’s six millennia long history can be traced in the Old Town, a place of unrivalled charm and distinct identity. Ruins of the Thracian fortress, the impressive Ancient Theatre, and a crowd of XIX th century houses in a typical National Revival style stand out against the city’s skyline. Apart from historical sights and museums, Plovdiv has much to offer its guests: the Opera Festival, the International Fair, lots of art galleries and excellent restaurants.
